I have been practicing yoga for more than 25 years. My practice began when my daughter was very young and I was learning how to become a single parent. As a former dancer, I was immediately drawn to the exploration of asana (yoga poses) as a tool, not only for physical health, but to enhance awareness and attention, and to steady the heart within the present moment.

As an OM Yoga certified teacher at the 500 hour level, my training is grounded in the use of precise alignment (influenced by the great teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar) within a mindful and breath-centered flow. I have also been deeply influenced by Buddhist teachings and practice.

Part of the joy of my work has been ongoing study, and bringing fresh insights both into my own practice and as an offering to my students. My teaching was particularly inspired by two years of Embodied Anatomy with the irreverent and amazing Amy Matthews. I have also studied Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR-the invaluable teachings of Jon Kabat Zinn) as well as therapeutic practices, such as Alexander technique, Reiki and Pilates. My qualifications include the teaching of meditation, restorative yoga and pranayama. In February 2021 I completed a two-year Training program with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach to be a Certified Mindfulness Teacher.

Some of the other wonderful teachers with whom I have studied directly, and to whom I am immensely grateful, include Frank Boccio, Jennifer Brilliant, Elena Brower, Christie Clark, Cyndi Lee, Frank Mauro, Richard Freeman, Rolf Gates, and Sharon Salzberg. They have all helped and influenced me in countless ways, many of which they may not even be aware! Namaste to each and every one, as well as to my students, friends and family, brilliant teachers all.

Currently I teach Yoga and Meditation at Brooklyn College, as well as open group classes, special workshops and private sessions. To see what’s coming up, click here.

My writing about yoga and meditation, as well as random thoughts on the way that the practices intersect with daily life, can be found in my monthly newsletter (subscribe below), this site’s blog, as well as publications such as elephant journal and Yoga International .
