About Susan

susan-kraft-aboutI have been practicing yoga for more than 15 years. My practice began when my daughter was very young and I was learning how to become a single parent. As a former dancer, I was immediately drawn to the exploration of asana (yoga poses) as a tool, not only for physical health, but to enhance awareness and attention, and to steady the mind within the present moment.

I am an OM Yoga certified teacher at the 500 hour level, which means that my training is grounded in the use of precise alignment (influenced by the great teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar) within a mindful and breath-centered flow. I have also been deeply influenced by Buddhist teachings and practice.

Part of the joy of the past 15 years has been ongoing study, and bringing the discoveries of this work both into my own practice and as an offering to my students. I recently completed and have been happily inspired by two years of Embodied Anatomy with the irreverent and amazing Amy Matthews. I have studied Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR-the invaluable teachings of Jon Kabat Zinn) as well as many therapeutic movement practices, such as Alexander technique, Thai massage and Pilates. My certifications also include the teaching of meditation, restorative yoga and pranayama.

Some of the many wonderful teachers with whom I have studied directly, and to whom I am immensely grateful include Frank Boccio, Jennifer Brilliant, Elena Brower, Christie Clark, Cyndi Lee, Frank Mauro, Ramit Kreitner, Carla Stangenberg, Jack Kornfield and Sharon Salzberg. They have all helped and influenced me in countless ways, many of which they may not even be aware! Namaste to each and every one, as well as to my students and family, brilliant teachers all.
